Five Tools We’re Taking into 2024 and Five We’re Leaving Behind in 2023

As we stride into 2024, it’s crucial to reflect on the tools that have become indispensable in our daily lives and those that have outlived their usefulness. Here’s a rundown of the top five tools we’re carrying forward and bidding farewell to in the new year.

Tools We’re Taking into 2024:

  1. Google: From Gmail to Google Drive, Docs, Spreadsheets, and YouTube, Google has been a steadfast companion since my university days (a long long time ago 🙂 ). It’s not just a productivity suite but also an entertainment hub, making it an essential tool for both work and leisure.
  2. ChatGPT: Initially met with skepticism, ChatGPT has become an integral part of my workflow. Its ability to provide instant assistance has revolutionized how I approach work. This AI-powered tool is undoubtedly coming for our jobs, but in the best possible way.
  3. Learning Apps: Platforms like Udemy, LinkedIn Learning, Duolingo, and Toastmasters Basecamp have become my go-to sources for personal development. As Jim Rohn aptly said, “Your level of success will rarely exceed your level of personal development.”
  4. Canva: Designing flyers and videos has never been easier, thanks to Canva. This versatile tool saves time and simplifies the creative process, making it a must-have for anyone needing eye-catching visuals.
  5. EveryDollar: With ambitious financial goals for the year, EveryDollar from Ramsey Solutions has become my trusted companion for budgeting. It’s helping me plug financial leaks and stay on track towards financial freedom.

Tools We’re Leaving in 2023:

  1. The Pomodoro Technique: While helpful in the past, apps like Focus To-Do are no longer necessary. Over time, I’ve learned to manage distractions and prioritize tasks without the need for timed reminders.
  2. TikTok: The endless scrolling and sleepless nights spent on TikTok no longer align with my priorities. It’s time to bid farewell to mindless entertainment and focus on more meaningful pursuits.
  3. Running Apps: Apps like Strava, Nike, and Samsung Health, which track every aspect of our runs, are being left behind. It’s time to enjoy the moment without being obsessed with metrics and numbers.
  4. Notion: Despite its promises of being an all-in-one productivity tool, Notion has become impractical due to its storage limitations and constant prompts to upgrade. I’ll stick to Google Drive for my organizational needs.
  5. Ride-Sharing Apps: It’s cheaper, safer and more convenient driving your own car than relying on ride-sharing apps like SafeBoda and Uber. The only way I am using these apps again is if I am the rider or driver. It’s the year of income streams after all. It’s time to take control and drive towards financial independence.

As we embark on the journey ahead, let’s embrace the tools that enhance our productivity, creativity, and well-being while leaving behind those that no longer serve us. Here’s to a fruitful and fulfilling year ahead!
